The club of Andrea Doria, founded in 1895, was named after admiral Andrea Doria of the Republic of Genoa.

The Sampdoria shirt is half navy blue and half white. A cross badge of St. George is placed in the middle of the Sampdoria shirt chest, which is the symbol of Genoa and an indispensable part of the insignia of Sampdoria football club. A lapel with a tether adds a retro feel to the Jersey, with the club name "U.C. Sampdoria" added under the collar at the back of the shirt.
